Shaping Learning Together

Four teachers, Christian Aguilera, Efrain Barreto, Alexia Delgado Robayana, Carmen Gloria Morales, have been attending „Zaliakalnio“ High School - Generating CLIL Bridges: Lanzarote – Europe Challenge-EUROPE– in Klaipeda. The main purpose of the project was to highlight the methodological and linguistic competence of teachers, allowing them to be more open, innovative and inspirational for the realization of new projects and to be in line with the European school reality.

It was a great opportunity for “Zaliakalnio“ High School teachers and pupils to participate in such an event. The working languages of the project were Spanish and English. It was good for students to get experience at this project in order to spark their interest in research and get them involved in CLIL.We really appreciated to work with foreign teachers, to share our knowledge with them,and get new ones as well. The challenge was to integrate one specific subject with the other subject areas. In CLIL lessons the teachers of “Zaliakalnio“ opened the windows of their classrooms using the tools of language in a meaningful way.

The guests offered some practical tips on making the most of CLIL. The teachers facilitated the learning process by moving around the class, ensuring that pupils were actively involved. For pupils successful CLIL lessons were challenging, rewarding, and required them to think deeply and learn actively.

And to conclude, we think CLIL lessons are a pupil-centered approach to learning. What is most importantly, CLIL allows pupils to use their language skills in a productive way, building fluency and confidence as they seek, discover knowledge. It was such a great experience from start to finish.

EYE 2016

"EYEamHere" is a competition organised by the EYE Unit of the European Parliament for the European Youth Event. The competition started on 6 November 2015 and ended on 28 February. It provided an opportunity to experience the rich cultural diversity within the European Union. The theme was from a wide range of beautiful landscapes, places and well known sights in Europe, the pictures offering unique insights of young people's favourite spots in the places they live in. Special mention goes to Snezana Kogan. A big thank-you to take part in the competition.

Spring Day in Europe helps schools to organise events in order to increase pupils' and teachers' involvement in the European theme of the year. Since February 2010, “Zaliakalnio“ High School pupils have been running different art contests to encourage creativity and participation, as well as to give our pupils and staff a chance to vote on the winners. This year‘s theme is “City Soul”. Pupils have showcased their talents this May 11,2015 in Klaipeda (Lithuania) on-The-Spot Painting Competition called City Soul!

World Book Day 2014

The origins of the World Book Day we now celebrate in Lithuania came from Catalonia, where roses and books were given as gifts to loved ones on St George's Day. A tradition started over 90 years ago. In „Zaliakalnio“ the theme of the day was devoted to the works of W.Shakespeare and M.Cervantes A main aim of World Book Day in „Zaliakalnio“ was to encourage pupils to explore the pleasures of M.Cervantes and W.Shakespeare books. The event was based on a reading-reciting contest, and traditional singing in English, Spanish, Russian, Lithuanian,and Geman. Pupils of all ages and from different schools came together to appreciate reading.They had to prepare their poems for recitation completely memorized.Video activities and multimedia resources were provided. The combined effect was very powerful.

In order to promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe and to alert the pupils of “Zaliakalnio“ to the importance of understanding cultures, the traditional excursion was organized by the members of EURR at “Zaliakalnio“ High School. Pupils had opportunities to learn about the composition,anthems and currency, famous people of the EU. That excursion took pupils on a tour of Europe, providing lighthearted insights into each European country. The emphasis was on encouraging pupils to improve knowledge of the EU, and EURR activities.

Burst of laughing and applause proved that all pupils really enjoyed the event.

A GROUP OF PUPILS FROM LATVIA WERE INVITED TO SPEND A DAY AT “ ZALIAKALNIO“

We were delighted to welcome the pupils of RIGAS 34 and give them a flavour of the facilities here at Zaliakalnio "High School. All activities definitely made the Project more visible for pupils of "Zaliakalnio" and "Rigas 34". The guests admired Klaipeda‘s famous places and strolled through of the town. It was great to see that during the events participants got a chance not only to obtain some knowledge, but also to meet new people, get insight into their culture, traditions and daily life.
