17:49 World Book Day 2014 | |
The origins of the World Book Day we now celebrate in Lithuania came from Catalonia, where roses and books were given as gifts to loved ones on St George's Day. A tradition started over 90 years ago. In „Zaliakalnio“ the theme of the day was devoted to the works of W.Shakespeare and M.Cervantes A main aim of World Book Day in „Zaliakalnio“ was to encourage pupils to explore the pleasures of M.Cervantes and W.Shakespeare books. The event was based on a reading-reciting contest, and traditional singing in English, Spanish, Russian, Lithuanian, and Geman. Pupils of all ages and from different schools came together to appreciate reading. They had to prepare their poems for recitation completely memorized.Video activities and multimedia resources were provided. The combined effect was very powerful.
